Smart Ideas to Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal

OreillyTeam-CircleMasterFile-Nov15Your home might be immaculate inside, both clean and beautifully staged. However, if you have not put the same amount of attention toward enhancing the exterior curb appeal of your home, you might lose prospective buyers before they even enter your home. Fortunately, there are smart—and easy—ways you can boost your home’s curb appeal with a little bit of time and effort.

Clean up the yard. That’s right; curb appeal starts with your home’s front landscape! If bushes and shrubs are overgrown and flowerbeds are messy, it could send the message to prospective buyers that your home is not well maintained. Spend some time cleaning your yard and landscape: Remove debris like fallen sticks or twigs and leaves. Prune back shrubs or bushes. Make sure flowerbeds look their best for the season. If any flowers or plants from the summer have died, remove them. Consider planting new flowers, like mums, that are appropriate for the season and will add beautiful color to your yard.

Replace old porch fixtures like a mailbox or screen door. Is your home’s mailbox rusty and broken? Is your screen door dated and weatherworn, with holes in the screen? These are red flags to buyers, but the good news is they are easily fixable or replaced. Take the time to make sure every aspect of your porch looks appealing.

Add a welcome mat, wreath or other décor. The simple addition of some front porch or entrance decor will make your home seem more welcoming and inviting to prospective buyers who are visiting for the first time. You can keep decorations to a minimum, adding a seasonal wreath or a welcome mat for a personal touch.

Wash the windows. Get out the squeegee and thoroughly clean your windows, inside and out. Buyers will be taking note of the views from your home, and the first windows they will see are any in your front room, looking out onto the porch. Windows should be clean of any smudges or dirt, allowing a clear view.
